Northwestern Alberta: Grande Cache, the Kakwa, and Greenview adventures

From Grande Prairie’s door down Highway 40 through the MD of Greenview: Grande Cache, the Kakwa, the Willmore boundary, and a district full of country beyond them. This is home ground, and we film all of it.

Home Ground

Grande Prairie to Grande Cache on Highway 40

Grande Prairie is the home base: the regional gateway on Highway 43, where the rig is provisioned and the trip starts. From there Highway 40 runs south through the Municipal District of Greenview No. 16 to Grande Cache, and past the pavement it opens into the Kakwa and the northern Rockies backcountry, off-grid on Starlink and solar, where the truck stops and the Commander keeps going.

We’re proud to promote this region alongside the people who run it: Grande Prairie Regional Tourism and the MD of Greenview. Most of this country sits an hour from people who have never used it, and getting locals out into their own backyard is half the reason we film.

Grande Cache, Gateway to Willmore Wilderness Park

Twenty-one peaks, two river valleys, and the namesake log cache. Grande Cache is the jumping-off point: fuel, staging, and the last services before Willmore Wilderness Park.

It’s the hub, not the whole story. From here the district fans out: Sulphur Gates, the Kakwa, mountain lakes, and thousands of kilometres of trail. The stops below are where we point the rig.
